We understand there is a learning curve for issuing checks from the Case Management Program (CMP). The following guide outlines check writing as well as clarifies repayment protocol.When cutting a check, three items are needed to identify the reason and purpose for financial assistance:
Case example: BM3 John Smith (stationed in Kodiak) needs assistance to purchase a flight home to Massachusetts for his brother's funeral. This is how the check should be entered as follows:

Repayment Time-line: The intent of CGMA's repayment policy is for all clients to repay loans within 12 months when possible, within 36 months if necessary, but not more than 60 months without contacting CGMA-HQ. A client's budget form will help determine a reasonable repayment schedule without causing further hardship for the member.
Allotment Repayment: active duty, retired members, and civilian employees.
Cash Repayment: the only method available for Reserve, Auxiliary, widows/widowers, and retired members who receive their entire retired pay from sources other than the Coast Guard.
*** For Reservists on Active Duty: CGMA is able to start an allotment ONLY IF members have received active duty pay for +139 days. Please clarify with your reservists when you explain repayment. Many accounts over the years have fallen delinquent because members incorrectly assume they were repaying by allotment, and ignored cash bills received by mail.
